In 1982 Charles Morgan Senior, a tobacco worker at the time, began to wonder how he could take groups of children to different events. He himself had not been able to travel as a child and always wanted to help others. He knew he could also assist churches in the community to travel to different places if only he had a bus. He had no aspirations to start a company at the time.
During the spring of 1982, Charles and Wilnette Morgan, along with friends, traveled to Mexico for Easter vacation. Upon arrival in Mexico City they were assisted by a couple who gave them quality transportation and a lot of love and care. They knew at that time this was what they wanted to do for others. They returned home, purchased their first motor coach, turned a bedroom into an office, became incorporated and Morgan & Sons Week-End Tours, Inc. became a reality.
One of the first trips by the company was made from Greensboro to Charlotte, NC for lunch and on to Carowinds amusement park. A number of children aboard had never been out of their city and they were overjoyed. Parents along with the children begin to ask where we were going next. Churches, scout troops, civic and social clubs, businesses and others started contacting the company to inquire about short and long distance trips.
The first “big break” came for the company when the state of North Carolina asked if they would consent to consider carrying inmates to and from work. The company accepted the contract and kept it for twelve (12) years until the state closed the inmate facility. Having this contract along with serving the general public allowed the company to grow and purchase additional vehicles.
In 1992 a 4,000 square-foot facility was built which allowed the business to move from the home to the current location at 8709 W. Market Street in Greensboro, NC.
Morgan & Sons Week-End Tours, Inc is a family business, currently operating seven (7) motor coaches including one with wheel-chair lift and four (4) mini-buses.
